Eight alumni artists from BA(Hons) Fine Art showed their work in an international exchange exhibition in Stockholm in November 2017. This was the first part of a collaborative exchange project between neo:artists and selected artists from Studio 44 in Sweden. Corduroy Part 1 – Are we in progress? washeld at Studio 44, Stockholm and asked questions about living in two northern cities; respectively Manchester & Stockholm.
‘What does it mean to live in a post-industrial northern city in this time, where perhaps, through the stream of social media, we are psychologically more informed than ever before… but, are we more aware? Are we merely observers or participants? The alienation that Karl Marx spoke of when relating to the modernisation of working life, is this behind us? extract from artists press release
The exhibition revealed how artists from both countries attempt to grapple with these ideas, explored through historic art practices such as oil painting, drawing, printmaking and embroidery to modern day video, digital photography, spoken word poetry and found art objects.
In September 2018 Swedish artists will visit the UK and work with neo:artists in making art pieces for Corduroy Part 2 an exhibition which will take place at neo:gallery 23, Market Hall, Bolton in September 2018.
