Artist Statement
My work explores the varying relationships between support and media and how both elements are equally important in conveying concept. I am often excited by the relationship between my ideas and the materials being used, and how the support can enhance the concept.
My work is often inspired by social, political, cultural, and current world issues that I am passionate about. I use my art as a platform to open a dialogue about topics that can be difficult to start a conversation about. As an artist, it is fundamental to me to talk about issues such as these, as without conversation I feel that there will never be progress. My final major project looks at the social, political, and cultural issue of the sexual objectification of women. My work takes a contemporary approach to this still very prominent problem, by focusing on the social media side of the harassment of women and how personal photos are often spread online without consent.
