Artist Statement

.

My work depicts the interiors and exteriors of modern buildings and structures that I see around my area, or on my journey to University. I explore and experiment with a range of materials such as plaster, cardboard, clay, MDF and wire to capture the forms of the structures. Abstraction has been a common theme throughout my work and is also something that is evident in my plaster relief sculptures.

A muted colour palette allows the shapes to look distinctive but is also a subtle way to introduce colour. The series of plaster reliefs demonstrates sections of buildings that show less is more. The relief work brings areas forward, creating depth and texture. Artists such as Kathy Dalwood, Anna-Bella Papp and Ben Nicholson have influenced my practice, as their minimal work contains structure and abstract qualities.
