Artist Statement

My practice focuses on contemporary issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic. My work is created using acrylic paint which allows me to layer detail quicker than media such as oil paint. Still life is a theme that runs throughout my work and the scale changes depending on the subject I am depicting.
I take photographs of overlooked objects and places, recording isolated, abandoned, yet familiar objects that are often overlooked through photography. I focus on the spatial field around an object and how the placement can make one feel an emotion. How does the space around the object change the emotion that we feel towards a painting? It is as much about the whole image, rather than just the object standing alone.
