Artist Statement

My work is about identity, it explores the beauty of postpartum body. I am fascinated by the human body: the curves, lines, scars, belly folds, stretch marks and all the things we see as flaws and imperfections. As a mother of two, I have struggled with my postpartum body “my mummy tummy”. So, my work is also about acceptance, self-love and seeing beauty and perfection in our imperfection. Sometimes as women we can be overwhelmed with expectations of how a body should look perpetuated through online platforms. Social media in particular tend to show thin women, celebrities who have had surgeries to retain or enhance their perfect body figure. Which is mentally torturous for women who persistently look for image approval through social media, and reassurance that their body changes are ok and normal.
